1. In recent news

I recently found out that the world doesn’t end when I don’t work myself to death,

That God still loves me, even if my temples don’t beat in sync to my heartbeat,

That if I threw on a wedding gown and vowed to myself to stop treating my body like a dumping ground of everyone else’s problems,

the Earth just keeps spinning.

2. Sorry I’ve been gone, I’ve been falling in love

To be transparent, I found a cemetery for self-hatred and buried my old self there.

She looked so beautiful with the roses in her hair.

Lying still, probably wanting a gasp of air, just one last chance to survive.

To be honest, I found a man, or rather he found me,

two doves sitting in a tree,

a love that feels like your grandparent’s history,

he is my favorite answered prayer.

And lastly, to be truthful,

I’ve fallen in love with where I am,

not where I’ll be when the plane lands,

but where my soul rests in his hands,

I’m excited to feel the warmth of my future.

3. Gravity

The gravity at dawn gets my attention. How heavy I feel thinking about the weight on the wheels of my car. How heavy I feel thinking about them racing down roads unknown, into places where folks haven’t seen my complexion in a while. How heavy I feel when gravity takes over. But heavy rests easy at the bottom of the ocean. And tonight, my heaviness is putting me fast asleep.
