Little Mike’s Dream

A time capsule for Martin Luther King Jr.

Little Mike’s big dream.

Character judged, not one’s skin.—

Children! Live in love!

*** *** ***

Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929 as Michael Lewis King Jr. His father, a famous preacher, was Micheal Lewis King Sr. When he was a young child friends and family called the father Big Mike and the son Little Mike.

His father visited Berlin in 1934 and visited many of the religious historical sites of Martin Luther and was deeply moved.

Big Mike returned home inspired by the needed resilience and faith for Martin Luther’s Reformation in America. He changed their names to Martin Luther King Sr. and Jr. respectively. At the age of 5 years, the name that would stir a nation was born.

Even late in his life, Martin Luther King Jr’s loved ones called him “Mike” and he invited his most personal friends like Billy Graham to call him by the same.

Amidst oppression, Little Mike had a childhood dream. He fulfilled it at the cost of his life as one of the most revered men to walk this earth.

It is our responsibility in the present and future to keep Little Mike’s dream alive, living in love and not hate.
