Life Is A Rainbow

But where’s the pot of gold

Red is the beating of your fiery heart

Born with loving fierceness from the start,

Crimson comes next, your temper and rage

You’ll find this gradually fades, as you age.

Orange protects all our love and those we admire

That moves our hearts with our carnal desires,

Next comes yellow, our happiness and joy

Our creativity we express and thoroughly enjoy.

Green reflects the thoughts better left unsaid

When we are scared and afraid or have been mislead,

Then comes the perfect blue of a summer sky

And it stores all our questions and wondering why.

By Antoine Rault on Unsplash

Purple / indigo allows us to feel life’s mystery

And closely holds onto our past and history,

Pink comes next, so shocking and light

It’s the grief we feel when we lose the fight.

Lastly, comes brown that gives us a chance to rebirth

And shows us the lies and untruths as they’re unearthed,

So, now you’ll ask, where is the pot of gold

That should be there, or so the story told?

It may be, the gold is a metaphor that cannot be seen

Although it does go to show how foolish we’ve been,

For there is more riches in life than mere gold

It’s the life we lead and the memories, as we grow old.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
