Les cinq dernières années

The mad charade of the last 5 years

Portrait of a mermaid

I "put up" with,

I yelled,

I protested,

I fought,

I've been interrogated.

For what exactly?

A lie,

a pretense,

a scam,

an emergency.

What the fuck?

@!$@!

When will this end,

this charade?

Everything has an end,

a fin.

When will the ending

of this story

come?

Last night, I dreamt

that someone gave me

a gaudy Mermaid costume

on the boardwalks of

Coney Island.

It was an outerwear

of being a "convenient woman";

it was so constricting,

and poisonous to me,

I couldn't breathe.

I went to the beach

past the ferris wheel,

took off my clothes

and my scales,

then dipped my petit toes

into the frigid waters,

testing it,

in February.

I slid into water

and swam away,

to submerge into its freedom.
