Layers of the heart

Tattered life

The layers of the heart know no bounds

They close up bloom wilt and shutdown

They quiver to grief

Laughter and joy

It blooms open with love

Hope and being alive

We go through cycles of life's tides

We experience so much that builds and undermines

We experience so much in the heart

The layers become shrouded hidden and torn

By Simon Hurry on Unsplash

Like relics of curtains in abandoned homes

They become sheltered away trying to ignore life's storms

Being battered by the broken windows alone

For as women, we are the bearers of life

We are the givers the shelter in storms' turbulent times

The ones who sacrifice for all else to be

The ones who say it is okay to sleep.

We are the layers of our heart

When our babies grow

We lose our self light

We do and do for all

We forget who we are

We don't know anymore

We see the changes

Things pass us by

We begin to feel unneeded

No longer fuelled by desire

We sit in grief not knowing what's next

Not knowing what's to come or what to do or how to become

Is this all?

You numb out of life

You robot your days

You hide away as a hermit with no outside contact for days

The years roll into decades

You are numb you don't feel your heart in your body any more

Then the day comes with shattering news

The day your heart layers are frozen and you cannot move

You are no longer the shelter but need to be sheltered in your own storm

But who's there to hold you in the layers of their heart as you ride an unimaginable storm?

Through the years of being for everyone

You have tightened up and never come undone

Now the unthinkable the call no one wants to hear

How do you undo the frozen layers of a heart that lives in fear?

You see it all, the broken moments

Long held onto pain

The reality of those who take advantage every day

Where you fit

where you don't belong

Those who don't care and expect you to always be strong

How do you reverse a dis-ase?

A dis-ease created by emotional self-held lies

Who will be there when you need them most

Who will hold you and tell you it is okay to let it all go?

who will be your shelter from this life storm?
