Last Night

Last night, I dreamed of you.

I started my artistic career in 2005. My first love was poetry and I wrote numerous poems for the first five years.

While I prefer my current style, because it is the result of growth and is influenced by my other passions (photography, haiku, artistic projects with other artists, etc.), I still re-read my old pieces once a while. But I do it with a twist: I pretend I am one of my own readers. This removes the potential for self-criticism and makes the process a lot more enjoyable.

(You should also do it for your own writing, by the way!)

Here is one poem that I wrote in 2007.

Last Night

Last night, I dreamed of you.

Such warmth hadn’t pierced through

My heart in ages.

We were walking in a park.

The weather was glorious.

I decided to sit down,

While you stood, unsure,

And chose to walk away.

But you came back,

Your tears still fresh

On your cheeks.

You asked me to forgive.

You asked me to give up.

But, I just kissed you;

And you would not leave.

I dreamed of you last night.

But the morning caught up on me.

I know your mercenary desires.

So, I had rather imagine you

Pure, loving, and forgiven

Than downcast, lost, or hopeless.

So, let me dream of you

Over and over again.

This is much more beautiful

Than your silence.

In my dreams, you are alluring;

In life, you are unbewitching.

Last night, I dreamed of you…

    Wow I love this❤️. It so much more comforting to see those who have broken our hearts in a dreamlike state than the reality. Beautiful ❤️

    Thank you for the message of being an observer of poetry rather than our own critic. Your poetry is always so well done.❤️
