Kiwi Contemplations

Don't Judge a Fruit by it's Cover

Looks don’t matter in the

scheme of things—

Take it from me, said the Kiwi.

Round, monkey brown, and

covered in coarse hair,

Mother Nature wasn’t exactly fair.

And the inside

no better— Gecko green

Alien eyes

Foreign

Freak of fruits,

Sectioned,

Kaleidoscope eyes.

It’s enough to make one

Bitter, and yet

Nothing could be

Farther from the truth.

Tantalizingly tart but

sweet, soft succulent flesh

Awaits the brave

connoisseur

Who can appreciate

What is on the

Inside. Those

Willing to be surprised.

People with understanding

That appearances can deceive.

Because, looks don’t matter in the

Scheme of things—

Take it from me, said the Kiwi.
