Don’t let this cruel world

crush your kind heart.

You’re a rose in concrete,

don’t let them pull your petals.

You’re the sunlight breaking through the storm,

don’t let them dull your shine.

When fires burn,

you’re the delicate glass from ash,

the beauty in the chaos.

Too many souls hide their hearts

or bury it wear no one can see.

You wear yours proudly,

right there on your sleeve.

You’re the best of us,

in a world of people

content being their worst.

You’ve carefully tilled the earth

to plant your roots and bloom

and you’ve left room in your flowerbed

to share your sunlight too.
