Dance with Death
A poem
Death begins to know us
the moment life flows through our veins.
Watching like a wallflower
as we move across the dance floor.
We learn to waltz our way
through the years,
partnered with our fears
and trying not to step on any toes.
Death steps closer
as we witness the woes
of adulthood.
Death dances next to us,
partnered with our past
and a who that was.
Every moment ticking on the clock
is another step closer
until there’s a breath on your neck.
It’s time to switch partners,
and Death is waiting for your next steps.
It’s time for your last dance.
