Just Talking (About Birth)

9/17/11

They say, they say, they say

I can’t do it.

I say, I say, I say

I want to.

Denial, in you

Acceptance, in me

Why am I the one

Who cannot see?

A day at a time

Yet think of the future.

Can’t deliver yet

Need to be cut open.

Take it from me,

I don’t know how

But it’s feeding on me;

Eaten from the inside out.

Growing within;

Needs to be let out.

Have its own life,

One I can’t control.

Separate, but connected

My ‘once was me’ moment.

It’s grown up now

Living a separate life.

Post partum, so far after,

But it’s not me, it’s it.

I have relinquished duty

To a separate part of me.

They say, they say, they say

I can’t do it.

I say, I say, I say

I have to.
