Jumping for Joy

In a Cruel World

I was still a kid when I jumped for joy

It was likely for getting a new toy

Or for hitting another kid who hurt

A little kitten fending for its life

That’s it

the rhyming stopped up there

I never jumped for joy again

when I discovered the cruelty of this world

I wouldn’t jump even if I was paid

You could jump for me

It’s 2021

Everyone’s excited

when there’s nothing to be excited about

Knowledge doesn’t come from the media

or most governments

You can jump for joy again

Do I sound morose

disillusioned

It happened a long time ago

Freud was always right

(He committed suicide in case you didn’t know)

Humanity is a lost cause

It’s not the way we treat the poor

It’s the way we treat all living things

Remember what was done to the Natives

Slavery

Shoah (Holocaust)

and countless genocides

You can jump for joy again

for your new job

your new baby

your new automobile

your new mask

How many layers does it sport

Do you like the design

You can jump for joy for that too

There will never be a reason to jump for joy

Even if we ever reach stupid red Mars

Come on Elon Musk

Your money is needed for better causes

Fuck both the Moon and Mars

We live on Earth

Earth needs everything we can throw at it

All our love

All our joy

And we don’t need to jump for it

Just fucking do it

...

Dedicated to never ever jumping for joy.
