It's Not Them... It's You
"It's Not Them... It's You" is a poem for those struggling to realize their value in their own lives. For those who give and give, only to be left unsatisfied. This is your sign telling you it is time to direct your energy and love to yourself before even thinking of giving it away to anyone else. It's time to put yourself first.
I pray
That eventually you’ll realize
That it was you all along
That deserved you.
It was you that deserved your best effort
It was you that deserved the love you feel like you need to gift away
Just to get breadcrumbs in return
Just for a taste of love, but still not enough to satiate your hunger
It was you that deserved to be apart of your wildest dreams and fantasies
And it was you that deserved the world
A world where you are in control of your smile
No one else.
The life you so desperately desire could never be given to you by another
Life isn’t that easy — but it is this simple:
Give every ounce and inch of yourself to you
The most generous act of kindness one could give to another
Is actually giving to oneself.
See, it is only you that has the power to fill your cup of love and happiness
If your heart were a deep well
Only you are responsible for manually replenishing the supply
If you rely on another to do the dirty work for you
Expect to become a victim of theft, robbery, and pure laziness
But are you really a victim?
You gave them the okay, you gave them the key.
When you rely on another to fill you up emotionally
You are just giving them permission to disappoint you
For your definition of love and happiness is far different from another
So without that cup of fulfillment being full
There is nothing you could possibly give others to their satisfaction.
No matter how great the effect,
No matter how pure the intention.
Self care is not a trend — it is your ticket to true happiness
Isn’t that what you want after all?
Stop waiting for them to provide the happiness
That only you have the power to provide
Self care gives you the strength
To say “no” when you mean no
And “yes” only when and if you mean yes.
Self care prevents you from exhausting yourself
Drying out your own well
Only for quenching the thirst of another
Only to leave yourself parched
Begging for more
Self care teaches you to be at peace
For the filling of your cup
Finally.
It has always been you — and always will be you
That deserves
Every ounce
Every inch
Of your being.
It’s not them,
It’s you.
