In the morning, the sun kissed my neck
A gentle reminder: you are beautiful
In the morning, the sun kissed my neck
and caressed my soft edges
and covered my body in warm light
and told me all would be just fine.
The night before, the sky shot bullets at me
and froze my long colorful tips
and rearranged my foundation
and told me to close.
The day before that, you plucked me from my soil
and watched my petals fall
and let me wither in your hands
and told me my handsomeness would never last.
On this morning, I take root again
and I grow taller and stronger, cell by cell
and I bloom brighter and bigger, thought by thought
and I tell myself repeatedly –
I am beautiful.
