In One Ear, Out the Other

Cat Has Your Tongue

I talk

You walk

I shout

You go out

I scream

You daydream

I bawl

You make a phone call

I whoop

You shoot hoops

It seems like all we do

Is I cry at you

While you ignore

There has to be something more

I can’t go on living this way

Don’t you have anything to say

Why must you be like this

Your silence is a loud diss

This isn’t even right

We don’t ever fight

I’m drinking from a bitter cup

It’s like you’ve all but given up

Where your mind’s at, I can’t tell

It’s like you're just a shell

We still kiss

In bed is bliss

I know you’re not on the roam

All you do is work and home

Tell me why you have nothing to say

It’s like you're mad and making me pay

What’s wrong? Does the cat have your tongue?

Sitting there mutely, making me feel like dung

I need us to share our day

Your trust I promise not to betray

Articulate

Before it’s too late

Vocalize

I need to socialize

Express

So I will no longer need to guess

Come on, speak

It’s been over a week

It’s time to declare peace

So that this heavy hush can cease

Come near, sit a spell, and listen to tales of old as I sit and rock by my fire. I'll serve you some cocoa and cookies as I tell you of the time long gone by when your Greats-greats once lived.
