if not me

i know nobody

"the magician" jason alan, acrylics on canvass, 8*10" 2026

this poem is about doing the right thing especially when it is unpopular, because it is unpopular.

*******************************************

unforgetting what was seen

the future replacing history

a power thief for the people

shadowy soul of the night

i am sanctuary's gaurdian

champion of the dream

if not me, i see nobody

maybe the reason is grief

maybe it is shame

maybe it needs no name

but it stands their either way

the broken now the breaking

an empty space it leaves

i command its retreat

its area that i claim

not as mine, for we

when i step forward

the view is changed

and the world is new again

the return of old friends

muscle memories revert

from frozen roots for feet

potential to move the earth

with more fertile possibilities

i am father, brother, son

i am the birds and the bees

i am the mountains

i am the trees

i am their king

and most of all,

i am nobody

because, if not me
