The summer afternoon calm

Shattered by the musical draw

Of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star

Or Turkey in the Straw

Lured out of hiding by

Music blasting through the street

Kids young and old alike gather ‘round

In pursuit of a tasty frozen treat

Ice cream sandwiches, popsicles,

Cones with chocolate and nuts on top,

Creamsicles and fudgesicles all melt

Compared to the coveted character pop

A molded ice cream shape

In varying shades of yellow and blue,

Supposedly cherry-flavored

Although it tastes nothing like fruit

A smiling cartoony face

With bubblegum balls for eyes

Biting into them wrong makes

For a rock-solid surprise

Over twenty years come and gone

Since last called to the truck’s chime

Looking at the offerings, to my surprise,

I found my favorite after all this time

For Fun
