I was coffee, and you were tea

The romance that never was

We were simply two points, fixed

Slowly moving, grooving

In the reflection of a coffee shop window

Moving towards the other, around each other

Like cautionary planets destined for the big bang

The bustle of the people, the whistle of the steamer

A soundtrack to our hopeful dance

They called my name, mispronounced

Haphazardly written on a 30 ounce

I watched you from the corner table, rapid fire heartbeats stutter

All the gossamer winged butterflies inside me aflutter

And that first sip tasted like a possibility of us

Burning on the tip of my tongue, like our first kiss might be

Scorched awakening within, a fire blossom raging inside my soul

Singeing every part of me your mouth and fingers would touch

Imagining the sounds of our love, a howling beneath a full moon

Echoes of desire shattering a silent room

Tasting of all the celestial things we could've been

If only you had ordered coffee instead of tea
