I Needed Color

In excess or in absence, color shapes the light that comes through.

Gripped by the winter

left in the dark

and choked by the cold

I needed light…

I needed light

I found it in color

I found new breath to give new life

Something inside you is always telling a story

bipolar feelings between

the voice of reason

and the rebel on your shoulder

There’s a voice inside your head

encouraged by the others around

those of enemies

those of friends

and by the rhythms of silent sounds

Paralyzed by choice

but when you take it all away

what you make chooses you

and you can only stay out of the way

You start with one form and are possessed into another

tables turn

transformations change

creator and creation trade place

Almost divine

the way the current flows through

drop everything and make time

to capture what the spirits are trying to tell you

You can find

every race

in the face

of the prophet

and as a result…

every race imagines him as their own

When I talk about the search

finding an answer isn’t the point

the journey brings peace of mind

and the freedom to explore

In art we find therapy

and in the pages of these notes

I find a shelter

I find a home

a calm to weather the greatest storms

A moment to be free

from the prison of becoming

a courtyard to plant seeds

and bathe in the joy that life brings

You could live for forever

but what would you do next Sunday?

if the power went out

and you were stuck in the house

from sunrise until sunset

Those of us

that are brave

have a chance to be great

and those bold enough to be different..

have a chance to be original

surreal poetry
