In all my days, I'd never been free
And though I lived in a US southern state,
Where you should hear liberty's plea,
But you only hear wheels of deadly fate.
I lived where cement waterways flow,
Carrying police cars and homeless souls,
And skyscrapers burst artificial glow,
That blind you, tether you, taking their tolls.
And in four walls my heart sat chained,
Until humid air carried me far away,
Where flora and fauna forever reigned,
If only I could stay more than a day.
On clear waters past muddy shores, I find a tall tree,
To climb then come back down, for the first time, free.
Inspired by the best rivers in the US, in Florida. Away from my city life awaited the perfect birthday gift.
