I fell down

Dear Door,

Across the hall I hang, daintily,

A little lopsided if you ask me.

I doubt you notice the smiles I give,

Simply because we've never properly met.

I'm sorry that your strength falters in the colder months,

I wish my colours could help to blend around your invisible bruises from being slammed so much.

I hate how they treat you, but know it's never their fault.

See, what I represent to them...It used to be love.

But now that's something that they don't think exists.

So I'm not a lot.

But I get the feeling it could exist between us?

You're brave.

And I admire the way you keep the warmth inside.

I'm simply a thing on a wall, not meaning more than a bit anymore.

Abstract and complex; sometimes I wish I could swap my designated spot

To somewhere more highlighted with brightness;

Where we could comfort her, together.

But that would mean I couldn't glare at him when he comes storming in again...ah, the habits of life.

Did I mention I find you remarkable?

I feel people under-appreciate the privacy you provide,

While at IKEA I'm a first-world problem to find...

Look, what I'm trying to say is:

I wish you'd notice my brightness when you open yourself up.

I know it's just a sunset, but the joy that you bring me has always been enough.

I wish too that you could uproot yourself easily

And that your details weren't so quickly distracted by the cracks in the walls around you...

Do you ever really see me?

I'm sorry - I don't mean to be forward or overbearing.

And please tell me you if you find it embarrassing when I try to catch a glimpse of the sunset in your eyes.

It makes them prettier, I think.

And it's not always about the colours I have, you know.

You're beautiful, in all your quirks and spirals.

I hope...I hope firstly that words will not escape me so easily in the next letter...

But more to the point, I hope that you will...we can...

And it's funny - the words have come to me now.

I'd just like it if, perhaps, you might love me too.

Sincerely,

The Painting On The Wall.
