An ode to my mother on Mother's Day

Tales of long-lost love, where a princess yearns for a man’s plea

To be redeemed for her desolation, waiting for someone who sets her soul free.

I forge to be the daughter who has seen women around her turning against the tide

This is an ode to my mother- a fierce being who taught me never to let the fire die, the one that burns deep inside

Growing into the footsteps of time, I have seen my mother through the toil shine,

Multitasking is not an act of perfection, it is a survival mechanism that balances survival on the line.

Through the acts of oppression, under the silent screams of animosity where she endured.

I am the rage of her suppressed anger, the one who knows that silence is never the cure

Love is adorned in the eyes of this woman who fostered my being in her embrace,

She is the lioness who fights, the one to dares to dream with an ethereal grace.

With pride, I beckon to be like her, not like her perfectionism or her idealistic strife,

But embodying the determination and perseverance that she oozes,

To fearlessly go after what makes the pursuit of existence, the passions that make her alive.

I love her in all her entirety, but most of all, I see her not as my mom but as a woman who knows,

To radiate the room with the light it lacks, to be the beacon of hope wherever she goes.

I am the act of rebellion, for I don't have the tolerance that my mother so graciously upholds,

I am not my dad’s princess, I am my mother's warrior, the one who courageously goes after the dreams she beholds.

To my mother, who is beauty, intellect and elegance personified,

This one is for you.

An ode from the daughter who vows to make all our dreams come true.
