Hunting For Birds

Parenting and Grandparenting

Grandson on his first bird hunt

birds

no thirds

lucky to get firsts

we told the younger brother this year who thirsts

for hunting after getting one

did you eat it for lunch

yaaa, but it wasn't much of a munch

I want much, much more

so I do not have to go to the store

to pick up lunch today

you mean your parents won't buy

yes, they buy, but why

bother them, as it is their day off

do you have a fever or a cough

no, why do you ask?

it's just that you are a teenager and your task

is to break away from the folks

tell jokes

about them and how lame they are

it isn't that far

until you are on your own.

Your job is to make them glad to see you change your tone

as a teen, so they will be glad to see you out of the house

when the time comes and all they have to worry about is a mouse

or two, maybe three.

I know there are a couple more younger than you still climbing a tree.

They won't be done with this parenting thing for sometime

even though, they may think so, it is a never ending time.

so, even if you don't get any birds, that will be okay today

as then they will have to remember they never get off for even a day.
