How Dare...
A poem about an unexpected loss of someone I wasn't close to by ED 4/19/22
How dare you surprise us
During the day
When creeping and lurking in the night
Is the way
That you have always been
Proclaimed to come
How dare you make me question whose
Will be done
Did I ask for this
This horrific surprise
Truth about reality has been unveiled
Now the reprise
Of the joyful tunes of
Days long gone
Are mournful songs from
A familiar haunt
In my soul is where
These thoughts reside
Though my prayers reach Heaven
My heart graveside
Remains a flesh-stone
Beating ever alive
Meanwhile these feelings stir the pot
The mind hive
Guilt comes creeping like sewage sludge
Into my being
An apathy quite stale now seems
To be reeling
Unexpected and never welcome in
This dwelling place
A feather on the sidewalk reminds me we are all
Fallen from grace.
