Remembering the joy of what I had...

A sharp and biting wind assaults my face,

the cold of metal bench beneath my thighs.

Around the bases, fading lines, I chase

the mem'ry of your eyes and first goodbyes.

*

The darkness brought reprieve from Summer's heat

and fanned the flames of raging fires of lust.

We sat and shared a kiss - your lips so sweet...

your ev'ry touch cements a growing trust.

*

I learned of you and you of me, that night -

the echoes bring me back to place and time...

bring back the fear of your impending flight -

but Summer's gone and so is the sublime.

*

I sit here on the home team bleachers... sad...

remembering the joy of what I had.
