The Riptide

home.

Push -

Pull.

A rubber band snapping

- snapping me back into place.

A place I’ve never belonged.

The place

to which

I’ve always returned.

Beware the riptide, I’ve been told -

- it’s the calmest waters that pose

the most

Danger.

Beware the stillness.

The stillness

pulls you

In.

I swim sideways

to break the tide’s hold.

But I only ever find my way back

to the beach.

The same beach where I started.

I dream - of cities - mountains -

of places far away

and Different.

So many Places I’ve loved more.

No other place I’ve known better.

Even though

this place

has never

Known

Me.
