Here Then Gone
The difference of just a minute
The wilting leaves on the forest trees
Their limbs ruthlessly torn asunder,
Their life blood running down their trunk
What happened here, it makes you wonder.
***
The wild animal decimated on the road
It was mindlessly going about its day,
Crossing the blackened highway
Hit my a car, it’s young now orphaned prey.
***
The family pet lovingly put to sleep
Hopefully now at peace in a better space,
Allowed to pass with dignity
But an aching heart left in its place.
***
A favourite haunt rife with memories
Is torn down to allow for something more,
Disappointment and loss of character
Because it was so much better before.
***
The dimming of an otherwise glorious day
By that ominous dreaded telephone call,
A loved one disappears, is now no more
Or better still, no word or warning at all.
***
All aspects of here one minute, gone the next
Moving from gloriously happy, to devastation,
Some isolated universal being somewhere
Is just trying to hold on in sheer desperation.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
