Hearts of Many Sizes
A Poem on Celebrating Differences
I'm sure that everyone here has an awkward childhood story to tell. Here's mine. I was exceptionally small as a child so teachers made me sit in front. No one wanted to be my partner because they were afraid that other classmates would make fun of them.
And we have the classic ostracism story. Many people have similar ones to share, and they sprout from ageism, gender bias, or differences in race. Undue influence leads us to have misperceptions of those around us.
Tolerating differences brings peace. Embracing them brings real joy. Enjoy these free verses.
Hearts of many sizes
Lined in a row
Minds open to all prizes
And all shutters throw
Hearts together pulsing
Each one stands alone
Yet together thudding
Melding on same throne
Hearts of different beats
Understand and feel
Rages on others' feet
And the pain that's real
All varied dimensions
Each alone does stun
But create a mansion
If they beat as one.

Liked it very much! Nice Michelle
Lol, mine was quite the opposite story. I was super tall and big and was always seated at the back of the class. Loved your poem!
