heart

(beat)

By Sara Published 8 months ago 1 min read

my heart

lies awake

all night

in the dark

waiting

for you

even though

my mind

has attempted

to explain

to it

too many times

that you are not

coming back.

ever.

not when the

sun rises

and not when

it sinks

not when the

tide turns

and not when

the stars realign.

my heart,

she does not listen

to reason.

she only remembers

the sound of

your heart

and how it

would beat

against yours.

she knows

what you sound like

smell like

and how warm

you feel.

she wants you

back.

stupid.

she has forgotten

the bruises

you marked her with.

(convenient, huh?)

heartbreak

    Love your poem .

  • My heart is stupid for the same reason. She never learns. Loved your poem!

Beautifully done. And that ending! Wow. The convinience of memory is a powerful beast for sure!
