“Have you ever seen the fireflies dance?”

No; but I’ve seen them held in mason jars

Pixels on screens, glitters, scenes of romance

Hanging string lights like lamps down street bazaars -

“They’ll visit at twelve” eyes on the window.

Twelve echoed strikes like ghosts down your hallway

Down our throats like smoke, forcing voices low

Bobbing from the brambles, luminous Fae

And now I have seen the fireflies blush;

Sailors who travel by boats broken compass

They tumble like drunks in streets now hushed

Peer through cold windows cloaked in the darkness

They fog glass with breath, matchstick girls cold

But sweet summer balm turns fireflies gold
