HARD TRUTHS

When my buttons get pressed

my tongue gets amnesia

I rip off the gloves

Cause I ain't here to please ya

I drop hard truths

That will shake your soul

I swear it's all in love

I'm just trying to break control

Of the lies our leaders feed us

to create a slave

No, they'll never free us,

But we're "safe" if we behave

Only we can save ourselves

Of the hands that we've been dealt

Chains of trauma and oppression

And all the confusion that you've felt

Trying to fit into a standard

That doesn't even exist

You are perfect as you are

Though perfection is a myth

How easy we forget

What truly matters

We focus mostly on our flaws

Only seeing what doesn't flatter

Never lending credit

Where it is actually due

The true beauty in life

Reflects in what you do

Cause our labels don't define us

They just merely describe us

So maybe we should try "us"

And really cure the virus

Of hatred and division

Where we think we know what's best

As we push each other to our breaking points

Yet on our knees we never rest

We fight till we are nothing

But wasted puddles of potential

Dying for one last toxic breath

Never seeing we’re all essential

The world couldn't exist

If we weren’t all here

Trying to figure out this life

Can't be done through fear

You must show up

Be courageous and strong

Trust in who you are

And you'll never get it wrong

Don't focus on the words

Others want you to think

Create your own narrative

Instead of trying to shrink

Inside another's ideal

of who you think you should be

You must learn this for yourself

Don't just listen to me

Draw your own conclusion

Of what you actually believe

And don't trust the institutions

Created to deceive

Cause I am not your enemy

I just have a lot to say

And the last thing I will leave you with

Is I will not obey
