a love above all other loves

a hatred without reason

a container for anything

under a white steeple

.

god was just a barren idea

god was something they told us to believe in

a structure to follow

a home to call ours

.

a plane crashed in the city

a girl lost her footing

a nonbelieverā€™s proclamation

over the stormā€™s scattered wreckage

.

god is a feeling thing

god is within us

.

a humming of presence

a fingertip out of reach

ā€¦ā€¦

I think god would be pleased with this sensibility. We who are religious tend to think that god must be honored, revered, placed on a pedestal to be feared & worshiped, when all god truly wants is to be present with us. As an ordained minister, I find your use of the lower case "g" extremely meaningful, downright incarnational.

  • "A humming of presence". That was my favourite line. Loved your poem. Hope you're doing well šŸ„°šŸ„°šŸ„°
