Go Pack Go!

A poem describing my three decades as Green Bay Packers fan

What brings me comfort

Since I was 7 years old

Is spending my Sundays

Cheering for the Green and Gold

* * *

It started with the Minister

Reginald Howard White

An absolute legend

#92 was a delight

* * *

We dominated the Central

The playoffs, we would make

But Dallas was a dead end for us

So much heartbreak

* * *

Then that magical day occurred

January 26, 1997

Winning the Super Bowl

Was absolute heaven

* * *

In the years that passed

The team continued to thrive

But then there was the draft

Of 2005

* * *

There was no preparation

It wasn't the true plan

Exit Brett Favre

And enter the baaaaaaaad man

* * *

Aaron Charles Rodgers

For three years he would rest

Before he began his road

To becoming the very best

* * *

February 6, 2011

An epic day, no jive

As Rodgers led the way

To winning Super Bowl 45

* * *

And every year that passed

Against every adversary

Rodgers throws nothing but bombs

And the occasional Hail Mary

* * *

As for me, I have the best seat

In front of my TV

As I cheer on my Packers

To hopeful victory

* * *

It's been a dozen years

Since we captured Lombardi

And I hope that this year

We have another party

* * *

But I'm certain about one thing

And I say this without strife

I will be Green and Gold

For the rest of my life

    Well done! I admire your dedication and love for your team. Very skillful inclusion of your team’s history in the stanzas, too.

    This was great! I usually do not associate poetry with Football, but you make a compelling case- thank you for sharing.
