My Second Born Son

“Breathe!” She yells; a mighty deep breath I take

And the next thing I know, you’re there, eyes meeting mine, alive, awake

A quick rub to the back and at last you move, we meet

My second beautiful boy; I watch as you’re taken, listening for your bleat

Nothing in this world compares to the smell of your newborn child

And the birth of you has made me mesmerised, full, beguiled

For you are so sweet, so feisty, this peaceful little sleeper

Side by side with your brother, you are my soul, my keeper

I awake each and every morn, longing for you, awaiting for your cry

And I know that this is my forever; my purpose for living, my reason, my why
