From Me To Me
Written to my future self
Dear Future Self, in some distant year
I write these words to you today,
So you can look back at a later date
And remind yourself of all I say.
***
Please don’t take life too seriously
You will only end up with regret,
A life of all work and no play
Is one that we need to forget.
***
It’s in the light hearted days
That we make the best memories,
To get you through the rough patches
So use them as happy remedies.
***
If you’re struggling between work or play
Ask yourself “will it matter in 10 years”,
Which will give the greatest recollection
The nostalgic thoughts and happiest cheers?
***
Spend the time with love ones
Take the trips you’ve always dreamed,
Buy the things you see as frivolous
Pamper yourself until you’re preened.
***
This is your historical self signing out
Remember to re-read this letter weekly,
And know that yesterday, today and tomorrow
You are loved and respected deeply.
***
Bye for now
From me
To me.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
