i hear the horses again
loud
pounding
never ending
i know what i did
they know what i did
i can’t escape my fate but
maybe i can
i write my future
i am the author
no
they might take me
i can’t let them
the horse’s hoofbeats snap me back into focus
scared
marie huddles next to me
i should have been more careful
i can already see the news headlines
from king to caught
they’ve got me
my carriage slows
the pounding grows louder
in my ear
i only had a few miles left
until I reached the country of marie’s brother
but now
i must face the wrath of the people
whom i have failed to escape
and
i undoubtedly will face
the justice
of the guillotine
About the Creator
Lucy Starr
Hi,
I enjoy writing poems and short stories that reflect how I feel. I occasionally complete challenges, and although I'm clearly not the most accomplished writer, I write for fun and leisure.
