From Across the Room
A poem for the From Across the Room Vocal challenge.
A little after seven,
we walked onto the patio;
dimly lit bulbs above
our heads led us inside.
Dark purple walls surrounded
us, but I was dressed in
sequins — like I knew
I was ready for
something new.
I looked across the room
expecting to find sticky floors,
cheap shots, and people
dancing slowly to fast songs.
Instead, I found
your bright blue eyes
welcoming me home.
