Freedom

(A Story on Feeling Trapped)

What happens when you’re too close to 30,

Still living with your folks,

Struggling to make ends meet as best as you can,

And having your world and hard work implode

Before your very eyes?

What happens when your mounting credit card

And student loan debt,

Car debt,

Phone bill,

All start to become insurmountable?

Also, what happens when you feel like you are

Being choked out of your own life

And personal happiness,

As you risk homelessness,

And destitution?

Well, you cry.

You grieve.

You mourn and weep.

You start looking for any way possible

To become free once again.

You also blame yourself and others,

And get angry—sometimes violently so!

At the world and all its foolishness.

You worry you’ll never get out.

You fear you’ll never be truly free.
