The way of the will

amber shades peeling

winks from grass tips

dirt paths enshrouded in aftermaths

reveal momentum unfolding memories

epiphanies found in the cracks

of dry earth

in the cracks of dried hopes

in the cracks of firm wonders

in the cracks of doubts and delays

in the cracks of what ifs and what stays

I roll

and roll

and roll past thens and nows

my bicycle wheels lollygagging

in sync with the old

willow tree branches in the breeze

‘tis my grandfather’s breath

when riding the wagon

- the reins, simply decorative -

riding back

from the field at sunset,

no earlier and

no later
