Forever was the promise I made to you that night under the twinkling stars
Forever was the lie I had to face when you left me under the scorching July sun
Forever was the amount of time that blood would drip down my cracked heart
As I heard a tearful, blissfully happy you saying ‘yes’ to someone else
Time passed by, I resented you for hurting me
As much as I hated you, I loved you a million times more
And yet, when you ran back to me and said you were sorry
Sorry for everything you did, even the nights you woke me up by knocking on my front door
You were soaking wet, standing in the rain with your puffy red eyes
You told me you missed me so much and you made a mistake by letting me go
I welcomed you in opened arms, hugging you so tightly in my embrace
After all, when I had said ‘forever’ that night long ago
You knew it hadn’t been a lie.
