Forever in my heart
An ode to widows who do not desire to move on.
Not every woman whose husband dies desires to move on. Society implies that you must prove you are getting over your grief by moving on in another relationship but not everyone does. Widows who choose to remain single and celibate should be respected and not be asked over and over if they have found someone new yet. If you date or remarry that is your personal journey so please respect those who feel differently. Our vows were for life and we will love our husbands as long as we live even though they have passed on. It’s interesting that people can talk about missing a parent or sibling 20 years later but after a few months, you are expected to move on from a life partner. Actress Betty White had been a widow 40 years when she died and said no one could replace Allen Ludden. There are others who feel this way and this poem is for you.
Some widows remarry right away
Others take their time before dating again
We continue to love our spouse
And experience separation pain
Our hearts remain full of memories
That for our lifetimes will last
Our deceased husband is always in the present
And not a memory from the past
Unable to move on because
We have no place to go
Our spouse was the one true love
No other shall we ever know
Fond memories fill our hearts each day
That help us make it through
The love we shared overcame all
So our hearts will always remain true
This poem is dedicated to the memory of my love for 45 years and my husband of 40 years. Michael Lynn Preston Sr. He is in heaven and will never be my spouse again but will be a part of me until I die or Jesus returns.
