Fooled by the smile
A charmer from the start
Behind closed doors the true colors come out
When we walk out in public the mask comes on
You aren't who you say you are
Fooling others with the smile on your face
No one can see through what I see
Fooled by your appearance, acting perfect in every way
Then the door closes and shallowness is consumed
Fooled into loving that once charming soul
An image created to capture your pray
Hunting like animals then throwing it all away
Fooled by your dreams, which were never the same
Fooled by your appearance that turned out to be the same
You never truly know a person till the mask is removed
Until then you will always be fooled
We can be as careful as possible but they still creep in. As someone who struggled with an abusive relationship both physical and emotional, I know that it is hard to see when someone is actually treating you right or just putting on a show. We need to learn more about the other person before we jump any ships, be mindful of the way they act and things they do. No one deserves to be played like a fool or mistreated. God sees it all, you are never alone. Let God guide you into making the right choices especially with a significant other.
About the Creator
MICHELLE SMITH
An inspirational poet. Writing poems to show others that it is okay to show feelings another way. I've tried a couple articles but I've found I'm better at the poetry. Just want to inspire and encourage others through tough times.
