Faith

BY: H. M. Zike

Faith.

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines this as:

Allegiance to a duty of person,

Fidelity to one’s promises and sincerity of intentions.

A firm belief in something for which there is no proof.

Faith has never been something that comes naturally to me.

I threw away my faith away along time ago.

Life has taught me that faith is fruitless,

And brings more disappointment than joy.

At this moment though faith is all that I have of you.

Faith, A paper clip, and dreams.

Even in the numb moments

When all the rest of the emotion and feelings

Have drained from my body; a little ember of faith in you glows.

That faith is what I desperately grasp and cling to.

When the pain becomes too much.

I hope my faith hasn’t been misplaced.

It would break a part of me.

It’s difficult to hold onto faith

When experience has taught you only disappointment.

You’d be just like all the others,

If you walked away without a goodbye.

My heart is heavy

The survivalist in me is stronger.

It holds onto that tiny spec of faith with a vice grip.

I hope you prove the dreamer in me right.

You’d be the first to do so.

I have faith in you.
