Eternal Pawprints

A Dog Lover's Farewell

By Miguel RamirezPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

In twilight's fading woofs of day,

A tale unfolds, my paw's dismay.

A faithful friend, now pawed and weak,

A woof who longed his bark to speak.

With eyes so wise, though dimmed by years,

He sensed the end drawing near, my dear.

His wagging soul, so full of love,

Beseeched his human from skies above.

"My pack alpha, my trusted guide,

In this final leash, by your side,

I beg of you, my human mate,

To hear the woofs within my fate."

The human, touched by snout so gray,

He knelt beside, in teardrops' spray.

"Speak, my woof, your heart's desire,

For I am here, your faithful sire."

With trembling woofs, he found his voice,

A somber bark, a heartfelt choice.

"Through grassy trails and joyful chases,

We've woven memories, paw-to-face."

"Our walks, our talks, your gentle pat,

The way you whispered, 'Good dog, that's that.'

The moments shared, so pure and true,

Will forever bark within my heart for you."

"Now as I trot to yonder sky,

Please know, dear human, don't you cry,

For love eternal, it shall remain,

Even when my pawprints wane."

And so, the human, with heavy sigh,

Embraced his friend, his tail held high.

In unspoken words, their souls did blend,

A love that transcends, beyond life's end.

In twilight's hush, a bond complete,

A dog's last woofs, a tale so sweet.

For in their hearts, forever weep,

A love that's buried, yet forever keep.
