Enamorados and Apasionados

In love and passionate

I thank God for that long conversation we had

Because I finally feel peace

After I had been struggling to know

The difference between right and wrong

It’s just that this is all so new to me

I have awoken in the middle

Of the season when things die

And now I’ve discovered

A new favorite sin

One that I feel I’ll be confessing

For years to come

How did you do it

Like a light switch in my heart

You turned me on

And since those eighteen hours

Seven of which I slept

One of the seven deadly sins

Lust

Has become my muse

My delightful distraction

And my worst waking nightmare because I

Cannot

Without the grace of the spirit

Overcome this shiny new temptation

So I brought it to you

After a litany of prayers

And a tearful reconciliation

And a doubtful penance

And a therapy session

And a spiritual direction meeting

I called you half-hidden under a blanket

Red and fuzzy the heat was killing me

Red with shame I mumbled and stumbled

Through my thoughts and feelings

About your body and mine

But you didn’t judge me

You didn’t scorn me

You told me we love each other and that

Your sins are the same.
