Empty Castle

Hosting a guestless ball

Blackened petals, wilted, forlorn

Gone beauty which once adorned

This rose, once blooming, now shorn

Adrift, disconnected, lost

Now knowing truly the cost

Of turning a marriage into a holocaust

This was supposed to be her castle

A place of light and joy, now harrowing

Servant's bell rope now but fraying tassel

Dusty mansion, hauntingly empty, echoing

Alone with memories she drifts to sleep

Reunited for a bit with a love once so deep

Dream dancing in a chandelier laden keep

Awakening amongst twisted sheets in cold bed

Tears glisten like morning dew on pillow shed

Prince Charming spirited away, a love not fed

His heart crushed, crown tarnished

His hopes for future now admonished

She had it all, but threw it away

Always wanted more, always her way

Prince Charming his castle abdicated

His princess bride no longer feted

Cinderella no longer dances at the ball

Guests no longer feast in her grand hall

Prince Charming searches for a new love

As Cinderella cries over flightless dove

I love how this shows what actually happens after '...and they lived happily ever after'. It was very tragic yet your choice of words made it so beautiful. I hope you're doing well. You've been missing for quite some time.
