On the Rocks

Unhappily Married With Children

Long days, longer nights

Tired of angry, bitter fights

How can those who profess to love

Devolve to naught but push and shove?

-----

We thought to grow together

Instead, we grew apart

Thought to be a single joined soul

Now each day a newly broken heart

-----

We have sought counselling

To try to save what appears to be dead

We continue to sleep next to each other

Whilst each morning's awakening we dread

-----

What of the children, innocent yet hurt

Caught in the middle of an ongoing fight

No understanding of why mom and dad

No longer read them a story together each night

-----

Does it help them to live in an unhappy home

With an atmosphere thick with tension

Parents going through the motions

Trying, not succeeding, to hide the dissension

-----

Perhaps we should split, go each our own way

Whilst some affection remains intact

Then we can let them know we still care

For them no matter what, our parental pact

-----

Kids don't need to walk on eggshells

Wondering when next the boom will fall

Better to see mom and dad separately

Than listen to constant fights huddled in the hall

-----

I don't know for certain where it fell apart

But I know it's over for she and I

Once we had a dream of a shared future

But no longer do we share a vision eye to eye

-----

So for her, for me, for us... mostly for them

We shall part ways while we can still be friends

Then we can work each in our own way

To our beloved children to make amends

Courageous & raw exposing the emotional pain. Sad melancholy poem!!!❤️❤️💕

  • This was just so sad. Parents have no idea how much trauma this gives their children and how terribly it affects their adulthood.
