Emergency Intervention

This may sting a little

Stop being so scared

shuffling around room to room

in your pajamas,

your last birthday gift boxers,

your previously-fluffy-now-matted-near-dead-looking sheep slippers,

your morose predilection for obituary columns,

your low self-confidence wavering, threatening deeper depths.

Cancel waiting for a new day week season year.

Won’t speak of fresh starts or clichéd new beginnings,

scheduled journal writing and group therapy sessions.

There will be no beating around the bush pussyfooting

prevarication evasion hemming or hawing.

Not even films with actors fence-sitting in them.

Bare-bones no BS getting down to brass tacks.

You do this or you die.

*Emergency Access*

This is equivalent cardiac arrest trauma code crash cart present

defibrillator pads attached.

No one’s thinking it,

but there’s percent chance of PEA,

of asystole—non-shockable rhythms.

You’ve let this world—its demented sadism—

infect freeze stifle and paralyze

mind heart being breathing.

Lost awareness of brain body beating pulse to life

suffocating in silent sameness

and stunted growth.

I need something to work with.

Give me some cardiac cells firing.

An electrical charge to save you shake you surround you,

bruise your chest with compressions

gasp air then yell, 'STOP!!!'

so I fall to knees half scream crying at how close death came

from you wandering around timid of life.

Stop wondering what if, what then?

Believe why not and how soon.

The stinging face slap pulling you away from all the realities you hid.

Standing in power and presence

dismantling everything in eyesight existence that don’t look right

to orchestrate a more optimistic world.

*Explanatory Intervention*

Not everyone’s destiny.

Not everyone’s role.

Splintering fragments

but now your corner’s whole.

Don’t look at nobody else,

you can’t be compared.

You’re still far from death

so stop being scared.
