I thought Druids were a peaceful people that held no vices
They so loved nature with its rain and wind and tree
Then why, oh why, would they have human sacrifices
An ancient people, long before the messiahs
Earliest known recordings scribbled in 3rd century BCE
I thought Druids were a peaceful people that held no vices
From the mouth of Julius Caesar is where the history arises
One druid is the chieftain, upon death another they would decree
Then why, oh why, would they have human sacrifices
Verse, astronomy and philosophy is what their day comprises
Abstained from warfare, many became a Druid willingly
I thought Druids were a peaceful people that held no vices
Yearly, they’d meet in All Gaul as judges, and would give their advices
Any and all found guilty, were sentenced a most grievous penalty
Then why, oh why, would they have human sacrifices
Guilty, or non-Druids in danger of death by battle-sustained slices and dices
Placed in huge wickerman statues that were set alight, their souls set free
I thought Druids were a peaceful people that held no vices
That’s why, oh why, they would have human sacrifices
