Love At First Sight
Fingers traced small letters on the bulletin board
without a conscious thought.
The promise of live music
conjuring memories and daydreams.
Wondering if the venue will be candle-lit
or a zigzag of primary-colored beams of light.
Crossing the threshold
soothed by a guitar’s coffeehouse vibe.
Not looking for love
yet a song flowering into full illustration.
Heart and mind nudged forward by invisible forces.
History from another lifetime.
A future unfolding.
A fellow mischief-maker.
A visual sweep
landing on deep chocolate eyes and furrowed brow.
Face framed by a mop of curls.
Eyes returning the gaze with raised eyebrows and affirmation.
It’s you.
It’s you.
A subtle curve of the lips.
A mirrored smirk.
A story beyond four walls
spanning every season.
A love for walking the ordinary path.
One gentle soul holding another’s grief-heavy heart.
An afternoon in the park spinning with laughter.
The cozy warmth of sleeping in.
A knowing without knowing.
A pinpoint in a vast timeline.
Butterflies settling.
Stillness amongst a change in melody.
Stars aligned.
Laughter between two people as first words.

Lop-Sided
My life began unraveling last Friday at school. The night before, I hung out at Marissa’s house. It was like old times. We were in her bedroom, listening to the original version of Total Eclipse of The Heart. A veil of smoke hung in the air between the burgundy-colored walls. She opened the window, but there was comfort in knowing Marissa’s mom was always passed out drunk on the couch downstairs. She wouldn’t come barging through the door like my dad if there is the slightest chance of mischief. Marissa and I laughed at pictures in last year’s yearbook, and she convinced me to let her cut my hair in an asymmetrical wedge.

Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller
Perhaps one of the best known modern plays in all of 20th century theatre, ‘Death of a Salesman’ is a 1949 play written by Arthur Miller. Set in Brooklyn, it takes place over two acts and portrays the tragedy of the Loman household - specifically that of protagonist Willy Loman. It deals with the crushing of the American Dream and forces the audience to confront the harsh truth about what America has become. It ended up winning the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play and as it is revived many times we in literature and drama hope it can continue its influence for years to come.
