Think of his laugh,
At his own stupid jokes.
Don’t think of
The harsh tones he used,
Frustrated and annoyed.
Don’t think of the disappointment,
His sad eyes avoiding yours.
Think of his proud smile,
On your graduation day.
Don’t think of
The angry redness
Of his face.
Don’t think of the sigh
Or the shake of his head
When you told him the truth.
Think of her laugh,
You’ve only heard a handful of times.
Don’t think of the judgemental glances.
Don’t think of her disapproving glare,
Her dispassionate hug,
When you leave after telling her everything.
Think of her skilled hands,
When she used to braid your hair,
When you were young.
Don’t think of her angry fists,
Balled up at her sides,
Anger coursing through her,
Obvious in her body language.
Think of whispered conversations,
In long car rides,
As you sleep.
Don’t think of the arguments,
The loud “talking”,
The “discussions”.
Don’t think of the annoyed glances,
The passive-aggressive words.
Think of love,
Don’t think of the past,
The hurt,
The bad things.
Just don’t.
Think of the good times,
The times that are yet to come.
Look forward,
Don't think back on things that can’t be changed.
Don’t think,
Just love.
